The Solomon Knot is very common in paracord work, and one of the simmplest. Here are the initial arrangements you need to get started.
Start with a single cord 4 feet long, with a keyring in the middle of your paracord.
Hold both strands just above the ring. The idea is to make a fob about the width of your hand.
Fold either strand down, then over the other, making a small loop. In this case we've folded the left over the right.
Now bring the right strand DOWN, and OVER that strand....
and bring it over to the left, BEHIND, and UP through the loop we first made on the left.
Your first solomon knot!
Tighten it by pulling each free end out. Be gentle, holding a thumb and index finger to hold while pulling each strand - one at a time. You want it as tight as a shoelace.
Once tightened, note the strand closest to the bottom goes off to the right. Use this strand to make your first loop, as you did before.
If you started with the RIGHT strand over the LEFT, this will be just the opposite. Use whichever strand is at the bottom of the braiding for each next step.
With the other strand, go AROUND BEHIND and bring it through the loop you just made.
Tighten this up, and proceed with next knot in the braid. Remember to start with the strand at the bottom of the previous knot.
As you are doing this step, ensure that your 2 core strands are not crossed over each other.
Continue braiding until you get close to the ring.
